Twenty-five elements inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity

Baku, Azerbaijan —The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage, holding its 8^th session until 7 December, inscribed 25 elements on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The titles of the newly inscribed elements below  lead to web pages with information, pictures and videos:       

• Traditional craftsmanship of the Mongol Ger and its associated customs—Mongolia
• Knowledge, skills and rituals related to the annual renewal of the Q’eswachaka bridge—Peru
• Kimjang, making and sharing kimchi in the Republic of Korea

• Xooy, a divination ceremony among the Serer of Senegal

• Celebrations of big shoulder-borne processional structures (Italy)
• Washoku, traditional dietary cultures of the Japanese, notably for the celebration of New Year (Japan)
• Kyrgyz epic trilogy: Manas, Semetey, Seytek (Kyrgyzstan)

Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage inscribed four new elements on List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding:

• Mongolian calligraphy (Mongolia)
• Empaako tradition of the Batooro, Banyoro, Batuku, Batagwenda and Banyabindi of western Uganda (Uganda)
• Chovqan, a traditional Karabakh horse-riding game in the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azerbaijan)
• Paach ceremony (Guatemala)

It also selected Methodology for inventorying intangible cultural heritage in biosphere reserves: the experience of Montseny from Spain for the Register of Best Safeguarding Practices.
