Workshop “Local policies for local heritage”
The Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe under the auspices of UNESCO organizes a workshop “Local policies for local heritage” in the village of Rudartsi (South-Western Bulgaria) during the Surva fest on January 13-14, 2014. This initiative is realized within the Global capacity-building strategy of UNESCO and the measures to implement the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003).
The objective is to promote the already established local centres for intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in the village of Bistritsa and Bulgari responsible for the safeguarding, documentation and promotion on local level of the elements “Bistritsa Babi” and “Nestinarstvo”, inscribed on the Representative List of the ICH of humanity of UNESCO. The development of a local centre ensures more effective protection and socialization of the elements of ICH, it is closer to and recognized from local community, estimates the local specifics, promotes the significance of ICH and increases the expert’s and financial resources of the community.

Experts from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of culture of Bulgaria will present the main principals in the creation of local centres for ICH and their role, while the representatives of the existing local centres in the village of Bistritsa and Bulgari share their experience in the field.
