UNESCO pays tribute to
Boris Christoff – one of the greatest opera singers of all times
On 4 November, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, paid tribute to the famous Bulgarian opera singer, Boris Christoff, on the occasion the 100th anniversary of his birth, at a concert organized at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris by the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Bulgaria to UNESCO. The centennial of his birth is part of the list of anniversaries for 2014, established by Member States, with which UNESCO is proudly associated, to celebrate eminent personalities and their worldwide significance.
UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova underlined Boris Hristov is one of the greatest opera singers of the 20th century who was able to make lyrical music a popular art. “If Opera is truly a ‘complete work of art’, which includes music, singing, theater, visual arts and dance, Boris Christoff deserves the title of a complete artist”, she continued.
At the concert the Director-General was awarded the golden medal “100 years Boris Christoff” by the counsellor of the Minister of Culture of Bulgaria for her contribution to the development and promotion of world culture.[:]
