The International Folklore Festival Veliko Tarnovo is organized by the Foundation “International Folklore Festivals” and the Veliko Tarnovo Municipality in the city of Veliko Tarnovo. The festival was awarded the statute “Festival of CIOFF” (CIOFF International Council of Organizations for Festivals of Folklore and Traditional Arts).
The participation of professional ensembles from all continents has established the festival as the largest in scale folklore event in Eastern Europe.
Within the framework of the festival, a scientific conference on folk dance as an element of the traditional culture, organized by the NS of CIOFF Bulgaria, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe under the auspices of UNESCO will be held on July 25, 2015. The event will be under the patronage of the National Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria for UNESCO.
The scientific conference would mark the 70th anniversary from the foundation of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and 45th anniversary since the establishment of CIOFF.
