International round table titled: “70 years UNESCO – peace through education, science and culture”

The event is a common initiative of “Sozopol” Foundation, National Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria for UNESCO and National Palace of Culture. The Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe under the auspices of UNESCO is partner of the event. It will bring together the representatives of the Secretariat of UNESCO, governmental and non-governmental national and international organizations, scientists, teachers and eminent experts in culture. The participants will discuss the modern vision, the innovative approaches and the role of UNESCO which contributed to the world changing so in the field of education, science, culture and communication a real dialogue and understanding to be achieved. The program of the roundtable included a panel of intangible cultural heritage – “Living Human Treasures”, which will be moderated by UNESCO’s expert for intangible cultural heritage, Assoc. Prof. Nikolai Vukov from the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Science.

The Director General of UNESCO, Ms. Irina Bokova will be present at the official opening of the International round table. The representatives of the Secretariat of UNESCO will be the official guests like Mr. Eric Falt – Assistant Director-General for External Relations and Public information, UNESCO, Mr. Jordan Naidoo – Director Education for all, UNESCO, Ms. Sabina Colombo – Senior Desk Officer Intergovernmental & Non-governmental organizations, UNESCO and Ms. Martine Levy – President of Liaison Committee NGO-UNESCO. The official guests from the Bulgarian side will be the representatives from the National Commission to UNESCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education and Science, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the National Palace of Culture.

The Regional Centre Sofia will be presented by Mr Hristo Angelichin, Executive Director. Representatives of Member States of the Regional Centre, from Romania and FYR of Macedonia – Acad.  Sabina Ispas, Director of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore and Ms Ivona Opetcheska Tatarchevska, Adviser for Intangible Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture also will participate in the round table.
