Expert meeting in Nicosia, Cyprus (22-23 January 2016)
On 22 and 23 January 2016 in Nicosia (Cyprus) an informal expert meeting was held. The experts from six countries – Bulgaria, Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Spain and Switzerland presented the technique of dry stone and its specific particularities on national level. During the presentation of this technique a multiple similarities in various countries was discovered and the experts agreed on the final idea of possible initiation of a common multinational nomination for the Representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Education and Science of Cyprus and the National Commission of Cyprus for UNESCO, as the Regional Centre for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe under the auspices of UNESCO supported its organization as a part of several planned initiatives on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of UNESCO.
The meeting in Nicosia could be considered as a preparatory phase for the development of a multinational nomination where an individual steps, affecting the planned application was defined.
