Round Table “Between the Visible and the Invisible.The Intangible Cultural Heritage and the Museum”

Round Table “Between the Visible and the Invisible: The Intangible Cultural Heritage and the Museum” will be held on December 3rd at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum in Sofia. The forum will gather experts from different institutions from Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania and Georgia. The Round table will enable discussions related to the capabilities of a Museum to showcase in the best possible way the ICH; the danger of ‘museefication’ (de-vitalisation) of the ICH, etc. The aim of the forum is through presentations of the participants and the follow-up discussions, to create conditions for the development of important aspects of the theoretical understanding of: safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage and its visibility; clarification of the methodological mechanism by which the museums in the region of South-Eastern Europe participates in safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage, as well as exchange of best practices of the ways to ensure its visibility.

The Round table will be accompanied by an exhibition showing the results of two projects in the field of safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage, implemented by NGOs with the help of volunteers and supported by the National Culture Fund. The exhibition will open on December 2 at 17.30 in the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum.
