The ‘UNESCommunity’ workshop is dedicated to the documenting and safeguarding of local intangible cultural heritage in Romania. It is a joint organization of the Department of Ethnology of the Romanian Academy in Iasi, and the National Commission for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of Romania, with the kind support of the Regional Centre Sofia-UNESCO. It aims to build a stronger local capacity for the implementation of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Romania, and of the Romanian Law for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage no. 26/2008.
The first main activity of the workshop is to provide general information in the field of ICH as theoretical framework, specialized terminology, international and national legislation, Romania’s priorities and strategies in the field of ICH, responsible institutions, best practices, available programs and projects, bibliography. The second goal is to encourage community-based inventorying. The participants will be trained in order to be able to identify, document, promote and safeguard the local ICH and to draft the technical document requested by the Ministry of Culture and the National Commission for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for inscribing local ICH in the National Inventory. The project’s long-term goal is building a dedicated network of key contact persons representing local communities’ ICH.
The series of workshops will be held on 17-18 June and 28-29 June 2021 in virtual modality.
